Meet Lorna

Something so fun about food is how unique it is to each of us. Our taste extends so much further than our tastebuds and we’re being influenced all the time… by the people in our life, where we live, where we’ve travelled, where we’d like to travel, by what makes us curious, our values, what the local store chooses to stock and so much more.

Lorna brings her own influences and her experience of working in the food industry to Happy Macadamia. For her, these products are a reflection of foods that have stuck. The crumbles that were a near weekly staple growing up. The sticky toffee pudding that you’d always hope was on the menu at the pub. The halva and tahini laced dessert and the Turkish bestie who made you aware of what Halva was in the first place.

She’s happy to put all she’s learnt- from training and working as a pastry chef in in the UK and New Zealand, to working in a plant based kitchen in Vancouver, to catering for the celiac people in her life- to good use in creating something for others to enjoy.

Why Gluten-Free?

Our core mission is to help make plant-based eating easier (and more enjoyable!) but we recognise that it can be extra tricky if you’re celiac or gluten free. So that more people can enjoy our desserts, regardless of dietary restrictions, each one has been carefully crafted to be gluten free.

We’re happy to say that our desserts are made in a dedicated gluten free facility. That means no gluten is allowed in the kitchen, not even your own snacks!

If you’re a gluten-loving person, no need to be put off: Lorna is, too, and her goal was to make sure the products were not distinguishably gluten free in taste or texture. We really think you wouldn’t be able to tell ;)

Happy Macadamia?

There are, in fact, no Macadamia nuts in our products. This is Macadamia and our brand is named in honour of him. A snack-appreciating, loving floof, he is the epitome of happy, comforting feelings, and that is what our brand is all about.
